How do I switch to another accountant?
Short answer
You give notice to your current accountant in line with your contract, and your new accountant requests your file: the annual accounts, the opening balance sheet and the status of ongoing tax returns. You can switch at any time, even halfway through the year. The best moment is right after a VAT return.

Many entrepreneurs put off switching because they think it is complicated. In practice, your new accountant arranges most of it, and you notice very little.
The steps
- Schedule an introductory meeting and choose a start date
- Give notice to your current accountant, keeping the notice period in mind
- Your new accountant requests the history and opening balance sheet
- Your bank, mailbox and software are connected
- Ongoing tax returns are taken over
What stays yours
Your records belong to you. Your previous accountant must hand over your documents, although they may first ask you to settle outstanding invoices.
