Switching bookkeeper halfway through the year: how it works
What happens to your history, ongoing VAT returns and opening balance when you switch.

Many entrepreneurs think you can only change bookkeeper on 1 January. That is not the case. Switching halfway through the year is perfectly possible, as long as the handover is done carefully.
The starting point
The most logical moment is right after a completed VAT (btw) return. Your previous bookkeeper finishes that period, and the new bookkeeper takes over the records from that point.
What is handed over
- The records for the current year up to the switching date
- Previous annual accounts and tax returns
- The opening balance and outstanding items
- Information about ongoing returns and any correspondence with the Dutch Tax Administration (Belastingdienst)
How we arrange it
Once you agree, we contact your current bookkeeper and request the file. We check the opening balances, set up your environment and connect your bank and mailbox. You don't have to figure anything out yourself.
