When do I need to file my income tax return?
Short answer
The income tax return (aangifte inkomstenbelasting) for 2025 must be filed by 1 May 2026. If you can't make that, you can request an extension yourself until 1 September. Through an accountant or tax adviser, you often get a longer extension under the extension scheme for tax professionals.

As an entrepreneur for income tax purposes, you file a return every year for the previous year. In it, you report your business profit together with your private income, your home and your assets in box 3.
Early or late?
- If you expect a refund, it pays to file early
- If you have to pay extra, you only pay when the assessment arrives
- You can avoid tax interest with a provisional assessment that closely matches your profit
With a tax partner
If you have a tax partner (fiscaal partner), you often file the return together. That way, you can split items such as mortgage interest and box 3 favourably. With us, your tax partner's return is included in the package.
